• The method developed by Mi-Young Lee allows the pupils whatever is their age to learn to play directly pieces of piano while developing their musical ear, their knowledge of the music theory and their classical education.

Very attached to the musicality, the PIANO ACADEMY tries hard to make the children work and the adults on this point from the beginning of their learning. The practice of the ranges is limited, the pieces are chosen to motivate the pupil and make it progress quickly.

The apprentice pianist learns then to distinguish very early the musical nuances, and to play every piece with his own interpretation. The technique of the piano is then in the service of music.

The method rests on the rules which follow:

    • A use of the keyboard on all its length to develop well the width of the hearing spectre of the pupils,
    • Pieces seen again and adapted to the age of the children,
    • The learning of the music theory without disgusting the child,
    • The musical culture to learn to love famous composers,
    • Videos on the Internet to allow easily the child to make daily exercises

The implementation of the evoked educational principles a little higher is differently made according to the categories of age of the pupils.

    • The youngest, those who have between 3 years and 6 years, see each other proposed by the lessons of musical awakening, courses were adapted to their capacity of attention and to the coordination of their hands. Thus these courses are generally proposed to pupils schooled in "petite section", "moyenne section" or "grande section" of primary school.
    • From the age of 5 years, the pupils can begin their learning of the piano.

Even there, the school finalized a pedagogy which allows to learn while having fun. The school suggests then to the young pianists attending class in a group during their first two years of learning.

    • From the age of 7 years, the autonomous children can follow private lesson.
    • For the adults, the route must be personalized and adapted to the big disparity which we find then in terms of capacities and tastes.

  • Starting the piano at 5 years old

From what age can you learn to play the piano? That is a question that we are often asked.      Mi-Young LEE began at the age of 4 years and other great pianists started later. It’s important that the child is able to concentrate enough to take advantage of course. Five years seems to be the most suitable age. We are then homogeneous groups so that each child feels good during the course hour.

  • Why groups of 3?

We often think that a tutoring course is more effective than group course and that it is better 20 minutes of individual lessons than one hour with other students.

What is good for older students does not apply to children under age of 10 years old. Our experience shows that a certain emulation allows the children to concentrate better, to find additional motivation to play the piano and to persevere to overcome difficulties they will inevitably encounter throughout their learning.

  • A use of the keyboard on all its length

Children are usually taught to play on the central part of the keyboard. Mi-Young LEE Method invites each child to play on different parts of keyboard. The child's ear then takes habit of hearing the sound of the piano on all its scales. You don't have to be born with the musical ear. That is something we need to educate.

  • Pieces adapted to the age of the children

Piano Academie produces its own scores. The pieces are specifically chosen and adapted to facilitate learning of children. For each semester, a volume is proposed.

  • Solfeggio

Playful and progressive exercises will allow children to become quickly self-sufficient in reading the two keys essential to learning of the piano. Our goal is not at this age to train children to composition.

    Just read the score.

  • Musical Culture

From a young age, we want children to learn to love not only classical music, but also to manage works associated with composers.

We therefore believe that it’s important for children to know the life of great composers and may wish with parents to deepen their curiosity.

  • I daily repeat using Internet videos

Through our partnership with the online piano course website www.e-pianoworld.com, we allow all of our students to review each of their course at home.

Each day, a course of about 5 minutes is then offered to allow them to repeat what they have learned with their teacher.

They just have to put the tablet on the piano and follow the instructions of teacher.

Parents can then without problem participate and help the children to make this work fun.
